Our new throne room, fit for a King and a Queen (or two court jesters)

Some of you may already know this (from fb posts etc) but Sara and I (mostly I) have been working on overhauling our Master bathroom to make it larger, more comfortable and stylish. It's been done for a few weeks now but I realized that I never took the time to share. So here we are.

This was the largest (mostly) DIY project that I have tackled and I enjoyed most of it. (Admittedly, grouting walls and wallpapering are not much fun)

Project elements:
  • Demolish Closet (5' x 5.5') and former Bathroom (6.5' x 5.5')
  • Build full-tile shower for two (3.5' x 5.5')
  • Install wood-look floor tile
  • Install wainscot paneling
  • Hang "grass-weave" wallpaper
  • Install Vanity, toilet and fixtures
  • Finish off Shower with "frameless" glass enclosure
  • Hang new paneled door
Although the project took a good deal longer than I expected (due to baby arrival and other interruptions). None the less, we are very happy with the results! Let us know what you think!

Some photos below, and more can be found here.

  1. Beautiful work, sweetie. Once again, I'm very impressed. (Just so everyone knows, I really didn't do any work, besides helping pick out all the materials.)

  2. It's okay, Sara. You were gestating. That is work enough :)

Charles, it looks great!! Although I don't quite get the glass panel between the toilet and the sink(s!) What am I missing?

When are you coming to my house? It could use a little work too...

  3. It's a bit of an optical illusion. There is no panel between the toilet and the sinks. I am standing in the shower taking a picture out (water off and clothed of course) The panel that you see is between the shower and the sinks. (Look real close ad you'll get it but I can understand missing it at first glance.)

As for my services being outsourced, I have a few more projects on the list before I move on... Basement (media/playroom), Basement laundry, basement bathroom, remainder of the household trimwork, and then, of course, THE KITCHEN! I think I may be able to squeeze you in sometime in March, 2025, how does that sound? Let me know, because space is filling up fast!!!
