It's not just the grey hair.

I just don't get it. Am I getting too old for this tech stuff??

I consider myself to be a very tech-savvy guy. I love my gadgets, I love computers, I LOVE the Internet. Every day, I try to stay on top of the latest tech news by listening to the daily CNET podcasts Buzz Out Loud and the more crass yet very amusing the 404 (I highly recommend them). I am always pondering what is the next toy that I "have" to get. But it's Twitter that I just don't get.

Ok, let me put this out there and admit that I signed myself up with a Twitter account earlier this week and started "following" some folks that I find interesting. But I soon came to the realization that:
  1. I was not really following people that I know "IRL"*
  2. Nobody is really following me** (and no, that's not a cry for followers - www.twitter.com/ru4eel)
  3. I don't really care that much about what these people have to say in 140 characters to make it worth following them!

So ok, maybe it's not the "tech" aspect per se but rather the social aspect... Have I fallen into the trap of "following" and looking for "followers" and as a result have turned myself into a social networking lemming? I can just hear my mother chiding now - 'If everyone else jumped off the Brooklyn bridge..."

So as I stated, The Twit, ehhhh... Not for me. I guess this makes me socially inept in this increasingly technically driven world (remember, I'm not keen on small talk).

Oh well, at least I don't have to ask someone how to set my VCR... Wait, what's a VCR?

*IRL = In real life. It's apparently "social networking lingo".

*Except Chris M. Thanks Chris! (I Guess)

  1. You're not alone. I love tech stuff as much as anyone and I simply do not get the hype about Twitter...
