I think I look "distinguished"... or at least I thought!

The other day, I had the distinct pleasure of being insulted (OK, more like embarrassed) by one of the hospital security-guard/shuttle drivers. Here's how that played out.

Now, I am not that big into small talk but I ride back and forth from my office to the hospital several times a day so it's only appropriate that I engage at lease part of the time. So the driver, a youngish looking guy probably in his early 30's asked me how I was doing and I mentioned that I was a bit on the tired side (as I let out a huge yawn) on account of our newborn daughter. He extended a congratulations and then proceeded to ask how many kids I have. I told him that it was our first and after a brief pause he said "Really!? Wow, you started late!"

Dumbfounded, "I said what the hell does that mean?" His response "..."

I relaxed and admitted, "it's the grey hair isn't it" as I hung my head low. "Dude," I said, "I'm only 30".

After a few more laughs with the guy, (all in good fun) I got out of the van and went about my business, all the while thinking - Is "Just for men" in my future? Am I destened for what my father terms the "salt and pepper" look? How embarrassing...

As I said, I'm not that big into small talk. Maybe I should stick to my convictions...

Greyer every day, signing off...
