Inches? C'mon US, What's with that?

We really need to make up our minds here in the states. We just have to make everything so complicated. Unfortunately, that's just the American way.

Throughout the pregnancy, we have gotten updates from the Doctors and Midwives about the size and weight estimates for our little one; X inches, Y lbs, Z ounces. (All estimates seeming to fall around the 45ish percentile btw, hence the 5 foot view)

Then today... "Ok, so you are about 1 cm dilated". Centimeters?? What's with that! If the scientific community functions in a system of Kg, Celsius, Cm, mL etc, what's with the rest of us? MAKE UP YOUR MIND PEOPLE!!!

Oh well, a centimeter is a centimeter. All-in-all, I guess it's probably better than 0.393700787 inches.

So that's were we stand in baby news today... Charles, signing off from 152.4 cm.

Even though I've gone through every grade from K to PhD in the American school system, my Japanese elementary weekend school math training dominates in my mind - must be genetic. Beyond the basic (inches and feet) it's a mystery to me - ounces, gallons, yards, acres, etc. Give me the metric system any day.

  2. There has to be some society for the migration to Metric... If anyone finds something or wants to start something, please let me know. I don't want my daughter growing up in a cruel crazy mixed-up world like this.

There has got to be a better way!

  3. Our RPI graduation speaker was Bill Nye (the science guy) and a large portion of his speech was about how we really should all switch to metric. I have to agree, the metric system makes so much more sense! Also, yay for progress!
