Let's not just step out and say that Sara and I have NO artistic or craft ability, but that's not too far from the truth. Friendly games of Pictionary aside, we can't draw. Fancy camera not withstanding, we're still limited to snapshots. Outside of small scrapbook projects, we can't craft. So the question I have is, "Is there any hope for our offspring what-so-ever?"
The reason I ask this question is because both Sara and I are continually impressed, I'll even go as far as to say blown away by the talents of our friends and family; talents that neither of us come close to possessing. We received not one, not two, not three, but five hand-crafted blankets for our baby shower. (Thank you all very much btw)
Nature vs. nurture seems to tell us that it is a combination of both factors that fosters these sorts of talents; if there is the genetic baseline and a child is reared in a household that has that talent, those talents will likely develop in th child. So, to me, the obvious deduction that comes to mind is that if we neither posses the genes and, as we stated, can't foster the talent, I guess our kids are likely SOL.
But hey, that's what friends are for!
I learned to stitch in Kindergarten and I used a sewing machine around 10 years old or so. You send your little one to the Lau-gan School of Sewing as soon as possible and we'll nurture those sewing skills right into her head!
ReplyDeleteI hear that the instructors are amazing and the tuition is massive, but the end result is worth it! (Applications available Fall 2009 by invitation only.)
