Of course, they HAD to seat us in the middle of the restaurant... Sara and I had our first bout of public embarrassment Sunday night when Charlotte decided to have her first major inconsolable public crying fit. I know that this is just going to have to be something that I get used to (and I am actually surprised that it took 3 months to get that notch in our belts) but never before have I had that feeling of being such a public nuisance; at least not since my insensitive and raucous Junior High School days.
Additionally, have I never had the thought of going up to another table, apologizing, and offering to pay their tip. I did seriously think about it though. Then I came to my senses and realized that it's likely not their first, and it won't be their (or our) last. Besides, paying other people's gratuities is not a habit that I have any interest in getting into.
Realistically, we are probably being too hard on ourselves seeing as most every other party in our section came by noting how cute they thought our 3-monther was... they may have just been trying to be nice though.
Funny though, the table of four who were doing sign-language all evening didn't say anything... hmmmm....
Wait until she is 3, no longer "baby cute" and YOU (not her) get the evil eye for not being able to control your kid...and you won't care because you haven't had a moment between the two of you in months and why should the rest of the world be so lucky to eat in peace.
ReplyDeletePS-the nursery looks SO cute!

I see your point. I guess that we're supposed to cherish these moments for now as they'll only last for but so long...
ReplyDeleteWell, Charles, I just tuned in to your 5 Foot View, and I really enjoyed reading your thoughts! My favorite one is your description of my darling daughter as your Superwoman- you are right on target there! The only one that does not ring true is the latest entry about Charlotte being a public nuisance.
ReplyDeleteWe know that she is far too adorable to annoy anyone! I will look forward to future editions...Grammy HooHa
